Masterclass: Writing with Cultural Sensitivity
Zoom Masterclass with Abda Khan

Join publisher Federico Andornino for this online Masterclass that looks in depth at the full publishing cycle of a book. From initial submission through to publication and beyond, you learn what to expect, timings, key moments and how to give your manuscript the best chance of success. The second half of the session will be devoted to case studies, with opportunities to ask questions about the publishing process and about your own project. Whether you’ve got a work in progress or a finished manuscript that’s ready to go, this welcoming and practical session will inform, demystify and inspire.
The Masterclass will be delivered via Zoom webinar, so you can take the session at your own pace, without the pressure of having your video or camera on. Sessions are also recorded so if you are unable to attend live, you will have access to the recording for a month afterwards.
Federico Andornino is Executive Publisher at Sceptre, the literary imprint of Hodder & Stoughton. Previously he was Publishing Director at Weidenfeld & Nicolson, where his list included multiple bestselling and prize-listed authors. He has published numerous bestselling and award-nominated books including Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers, Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason and Murder Before Evensong by Reverend Richard Coles. Other authors on his list include Jacqueline Woodson, Sandro Veronesi, Charlotte Wood, Georgi Gospodinov, Tiffany McDaniel, Andrew Lipstein and Arinze Ifeakandu. In 2022 he was shortlisted for Editor of the Year at the British Book Awards.

"These zoom opportunities are really helping to open my world and keep me inspired to write."— Masterclass participant
"Arvon at Home creates a model to participate in inspirational tutoring for writers, at a distance. The feeling of attending to my writing life in an excellent fashion, and still having a half-day for my work and caring responsibilities at home, felt like a good balance."— Masterclass participant
"It was an absolutely brilliant session and very very useful. And it made me realise how much I’ve missed this kind of workshop because of having children and family that I can’t leave. Now we’re all in the same boat the online stuff is truly transformative."— Masterclass participant
