Residential Writing Week: Non-Fiction
Vital natures
If you’re a teacher of creative writing looking to develop your skills, this two-hour Masterclass with Marina Benjamin, author of a trilogy of memoirs and experienced creative writing tutor, will offer guidance, tools, and fresh inspiration. Marina will cover the nose-to-tail elements of designing a workshop, from the importance of introductions, warm-ups and ice-breakers to temperature checks and benchmarks – the various ways you can get to know a large group at speed. We’ll look at how you do something meaningful in an hour versus how to keep the energy up in a day-long workshop; how to choose resources; how to gamify content; how to extract layered discussion from set texts and how to think about your workshop in terms of moveable modules. Whether you’re a writer keen to explore teaching, a secondary school teacher or community educator, this session will enable you to plan and structure a workshop that is effective, motivating, and entirely your own. This is part of Arvon’s How to Teach Creative Writing Masterclass strand.
