Online Writing Week: Poetry
Poetry and its Hinterland
Join award-winning poets Steve Ely and MacGillivray for a day of writing and walking in the breathtaking landscape around Hebden Bridge.
From your base at Wainsgate Chapel, the morning begins with Steve and MacGillivray leading a guided walk exploring the local woods, moors and rivers. In the afternoon*, Steve and MacGillivray will each lead an inspiring and supportive workshop to give you ideas and skills for writing about place. You will create poetic responses to the morning’s walk and gain an understanding of how both practices, walking and writing, can feed each other and help you develop your own creative path.
Please bring sturdy footwear suitable for hilly and uneven terrain, waterproofs, a fleece layer as it can get windy on the tops, and a rucksack with a flask for water and snacks. A simple, tasty lunch will be provided, as will snacks and refreshments throughout the day.
*The afternoon workshops will be held at Wainsgate Chapel, a former Baptist chapel and Grade II listed building. The chapel is a centre for local heritage and creativity hidden away down a quiet track on a hillside just outside Hebden Bridge in the South Pennines of West Yorkshire
